TELL’EM they’re dream’ in…. The Baillieu government must be in La-La land if they think developers will provide affordable housing just down the road from where developers are having difficulty flogging townhouses for $4 million.
The Victorian had the media on hook line and sinker when it revealed plans to develop the land around Fishermans Bend.
After last Friday’s announcement, Mr. Ballieu must be asked what do you call affordable?
In one of the most farcical property announcements of the past decade Planning Minister Matthew Guy declared there will be affordable housing at Docklands.
Here are Victorians just recovering from a decade of misleading conduct from the Bracks/Brumby government to discover the Baillieu government are pledging ‘affordable housing’ just a few kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD at the edge of Docklands in Port Melbourne where the average housing price tips over the $1 million mark.
So, hands up which developer will sell an affordable apartment in one of Melbourne’s prime living locations for say $400,000 – not a studio apartment or a one bedder you couldn’t swing a cat in, but a home.
Of course, many other developers will put their hands up for the chance to get their hands on such primed waterfront land, but will it be affordable?
I don’t think so!
Why would a developer– selling townhouses and apartments just down the road for multiple of millions market so-called affordable housing at such a prized location?
One must wonder what the Ballieu ministers think is affordable…
Well, the fact is they won’t… this is a government ruse, unfortunately, the first of many a ‘spin’ from a newly elected government.
Mr. Ballieu, Mr. Guy, have we already returned to the Backs/Kennett era where cheap talk matched cheap policies?
Please, Mr. Baillieu – Mr. Guy – don’t talk spin, show us the so-called affordable housing at Docklands – say around $350,000 for a home – not a bedsitter — and if you can’t, well, you are just as bad as every other misleading politician from the past two decades.
I mean for god sakes, you can’t even summon up the guts to get rid of last resort builders warranty insurance.
