THE Seaspray Resort in Zilzie, 40 minutes east of Rockhampton, has been recognised as Australia’s best multiple housing development at the Royal Australian Institute of Architect’s national awards.
Seaspray’s collection of 17 luxury holiday apartments trumped approximately 60 projects nation-wide to win the coveted RAIA Frederick Romberg award for multiple housing.
Overlooking Keppel Islands, Seaspray is a masterplanned coastal development, comprising a residential community as well as a Resort and Rec Club precinct.
The Seaspray apartments were designed by Donovan Hill – a renowned Brisbane based architecture firm, which was also responsible for the design of Seaspray’s signature residential display home.
Seaspray design and project manager Kerry Hollyoak said the award is an amazing accolade for Seaspray and Donovan Hill.
“This award substantiates that Seaspray is truly on par with the top residential resort communities in Australia,” Hollyoak said.
RAIA jury chair Melinda Dodson said the design of the Seaspray apartments was a masterful response to the location and landscape in Zilzie.
“The Seaspray apartments are highly successful and popular, have increased the understanding of and desire for the benefits of good architecture, and offer a model for tight, economical and ecologically responsible housing development,” she added.
