BOVIS Lend Lease has been declared the overall winner of the GIO Workers Compensation Award for Excellence in Occupational Health & Safety at the 2010 National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA) / GIO Workers Compensation National Safety Awards of Excellence.
The company’s implementation of an easy-to-use system of rules and guides for operating safely called “The Global Minimum Requirements: (GMRs)” and “Australian Means & Methods” was a clear standout among the many submissions.
The award represents the pinnacle of the annual program and positions Bovis Lend Lease at the very top in the area of workplace safety in Australia.
The company also won the Best Implementation of a Specific OHS Management System Award for the innovative GMRs and Australian Means & Methods system.
Bovis Lend Lease Australia managing director Tony Costantino said the awards are of particular significance given the company’s uncompromising focus on safety.
“We are continually looking to introduce innovative systems and implement safety practices that go above and beyond industry best practice standards to ensure we consistently raise the bar when driving improved safety performance,” he added.
Launched by Lend Lease globally in 2008, the GMRs set a minimum standard of acceptance which is accompanied by the Australian Means & Methods – a simple guide of utilising both pictorial and written guidelines to form a complete rule book for operating safely in compliance with the GMRs.
Now in their 18th year, the NSCA/GIO Workers Compensation National Safety Awards of Excellence recognise outstanding workplace safety initiatives.
