VICTORIA'S building industry has recorded significant growth. According to the Building Commission, permits issued in almost all regions and categories rose during the first month of the new financial year.
The Building Commission’s latest pulse statistics revealed the value of permits issued in July 2009 totalled $2.1 billion an increase of 16% from $1.8 billion in July 2008.
Building Commissioner Tony Arnel said all regions, except for Inner Melbourne, experienced growth, with rural areas the strongest. Gippsland, South West, North West and North East all grew by more than 36%.
Total rural building permits issued grew by almost 36%.
“When we look at the data for building permit use, Hospital/Healthcare, Public Buildings, Domestic, Industrial and Commercial grew 285%, 172%, 14%, 3% and 1% respectively,” he added.
