WATPAC has started construction of the $135 million Queensland Institute of Medical Research new Smart State Medical Research Centre.
The company was appointed managing contractor in October 2007 and commenced Phase 1 of the project in June 2008. Located on the Royal Brisbane Hospital campus in Herston, Brisbane, the SSMRC will become a leading medical research facility for QIMR.
The two-phase managing contractor project will deliver a 13-level research building for the purposes of medical research to fulfil QIMR’s vision of ‘better health through medical research’.
The new building will also enable significant expansion of QIMR’s Indigenous Health, Tropical Health, Biosecurity, and Cancer and Genetics research.
