LAING O'Rourke has been given the green light by the Townsville City Council to go ahead with the $93 million Palmer Street building, Harbourside.
The development will offer 140 serviced hotel apartments and 22 penthouse-style residential apartments, with retail space on the ground floor.
Project manager Bill Edmonds said Harbourside will be Laing O’Rourke’s first development project in North Queensland.
“We are very confident the hotel will meet the top end of the market through superior quality and service standards, giving investors solid returns year-round.
“Harbourside will be a perfect fit for Townsville because of the city’s strong and diverse local economy,” he added.
Laing O’Rourke is the developer and builder for the project, and has appointed leading Queensland architects Raunik Design to design the building.
The first stage of Harbourside apartments will be launched to the market in February next year, with serviced hotel apartments expected to start from $335,000.
Site clearing has already been completed, with the previous building, an historic eighteenth century home, donated to William Ross High School for students to renovate as part of their technological studies. Construction is expected to start early next year.
