Construction work rebound

TOTAL construction work done has risen 4.4% in the September quarter to $34.24 billion – following a fall of 0.4% in the June quarter, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The sector was supported by the engineering work which rose 10.4% to $16.37 billion and the residential contributed $10.47 billion, up 0.9%.

Meanwhile building work fell 0.5% to $17.86 billion and the commercial sector weakened further by 2.4% to $7.39 billion.

According to the ABS, construction work done in New South Wales has risen for the last four quarters and in Victoria for the last six quarters.

Queensland was the strongest, growing for the last 21 quarters followed by Western Australia which has risen for 19 quarters.

Construction work done in South Australia has risen for four quarters. In Tasmania, construction work done has grown for two quarters.

The Northern Territory rise for the last three quarters and the Australian Capital Territory has risen for two quarters.
