Somerset wins sustainability award

LEND Lease's Somerset project in Singapore has been awarded the highest sustainability recognition in the country.

The Building Construction Authority has awarded the project The Green Mark Platinum Award.

The Somerset project has achieved a 30% reduction in energy consumption, compared to the average code compliant building, through innovative design and equipment selection.

With direct frontage to Orchard and Somerset Roads, in Singapore’s most prestigious retail precinct, the Somerset project showcases eight levels of retail, five above and three below the ground, housing over 180 retailers.

Lend Lease has also implemented a detailed carbon footprint analysis and reduction strategy and sustainability education strategies for the community, retailers and customers.

The shopping centre will be completed late 2009.

The Green Mark for Building Scheme is the BCA’s main initiative to promote environmental sustainability in buildings in Singapore.

The scheme encourages the adoption of various green building technologies and innovations to achieve higher energy and water efficiency, as well as better indoor environmental quality management.

Green Mark Platinum is the highest tier under the scheme and is awarded to the exemplary green project that demonstrates a minimum of 30% savings in energy and water, as well as environmentally sustainable building practices and innovative green features.
