MFS Living and Leisure Group is investing $3 million in infrastructure to increase snow making capacity at its Victorian ski resort, Hotham.
Twenty-six hydrant points will be installed throughout Heavenly Valley, Hotham’s most popular ski run, during summer 2007/2008, which will increase capacity by at least 35% and the total terrain under snow from 17 to 25 hectares.
MPY chief executive Marshall Vann said the additional snow making capability will also help to offset the fluctuations in natural snow fall, such as that experienced during the 2006 ski season.
Vann said this investment further supports MPY’s initial $2 million investment in FY06 to construct a 27 mega-litre reservoir as part of a water recycling program to support snow making operations at the resort. The Victorian Government contributed a further $6.36 million to the project.
