Builders warranty broker pleads guilty

A VICTORIAN builders warranty insurance provider has pleaded in the Melbourne Magistrates Court to four charges following an investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Dennis Murvan Gentry, of Collingwood, Victoria, pleaded guilty to two charges of making a false document in relation to providing false Builders Warranty Insurance certificates to a Victorian builder in April 2004.

Gentry has also pleaded guilty to two charges that relate to dishonestly using his position as an insurance provider to obtain funds totalling $17,100 from Tenth Zital Pty Ltd, which is in liquidation and Emval Pty Ltd, by representing that he would provide them with valid insurance certificates.

At the time, Gentry was operating as an insurance broker and represented several insurance broking businesses.

Gentry is required to reappear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court for sentencing on July 12, 2007.
