Green thumbs up for Bingara estate

DELFIN Lend Lease's new $1 billion master planned community, Bingara Gorge in Sydney's south-west, has received the first HIA GreenSmart Advanced Estate accreditation.

The accreditation recognises that the estate recycles 100% of stormwater; has a private sewer treatment plant; provides 120 hectares of environmental land and adheres to building and siting home design guidelines.

Bingara Gorge’s project director Paul Gerlach said the advanced accreditation is an outstanding achievement for the project.

“Bingara Gorge’s innovative $7.7 million stormwater management and sewage re-use scheme exceeded the State Government’s defined BASIX Sustainability Target and will save up to 50% of potable water, compared to the 40% saving in the Government’s targets.

“The development will have 120 hectares of bushland, the equivalent of 27% of the site, maintained and protected by an Environmental Trust that will involve the residents,” he added.

Bingara Gorge is located approximately 60 minutes southwest of Sydney.

The development is spread over approximately 450 hectares and will include 1,165 residential lots, a country club as well as a 18-hole championship golf course designed by South African golfer Ernie Els.

It will feature a school, childcare centre, village centre with shops and commercial uses, 18 kilometre of paths and trails and high-quality sporting facilities through the creation of eight hectares of sports fields.

The development will eventually be home to more than 3,500 residents by 2015.
