Centro has officially unveiled the new Centro Colonnades shopping centre following a $120 million redevelopment program.
The redevelopment represents a major investment in Adelaide’s southern suburbs and is Centro’s largest development to date in any of its shopping centres.
The expansion of the Centro Colonnades by almost 25,000 sqm of floor space, and an increase of more than 50%, was undertaken in response to demand for facilities from the region’s fast-growing population.
The population boom is predicted to continue at more than double the State average over the next ten years.
Centro’s chief operating officer Graham Terry said the traffic flow has increased by an average of over 50% since the recent opening.
“Residents now have one of the largest and best retail complexes in Adelaide, offering shoppers an enormous choice of retail, fresh food, and dining options including over 200 specialty stores, two fresh food precincts – Market Fresh and Fresh Life as well as Diners Life – one of the largest premium food courts in South Australia. There are also 4,000 carparks and a stunning new fashion precinct,” he added.
Centro Colonnades was the first major shopping centre to operate in the southern suburbs and it has been a community hub since it opened.
It was named “Shopping Centre of the Year” at the Retail Property Awards in 2004, as well as being recognised for its Environmental Leadership and Excellence in Marketing at this year’s Retail Property Awards.
Centro also has plans for the expansion of other centres in South Australia in the next two years, including Centro Arndale, Centro Murray Bridge, Centro Port Pirie and Centro Kurralta.
