Residential property developer Urban Pacific’s projects in South Australia and Western Australia have won awards for ‘Affordable Development’ at the Urban Development Institute of Australia Awards for Excellence.
The Westwood project in Adelaide’s north-west, and the Somerly development north of Perth were both recognised as the best providers of affordable housing at the SA and WA UDIA Awards.
Urban Pacific chief operating Wayne Rex home buyers are looking to gain the maximum value on their home purchase and are becoming more discriminating about where they choose to build.
The UDIA judges commented that the success of the project was “demonstrated by the fact that original first home buyers are now looking to upgrade within the area with minimal changeover costs”.
Westwood is the largest urban renewal project in Australia. The $600 million development is a joint project between Housing SA and Urban Pacific Limited and in cooperation with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. The project, which commenced in 1999, includes a physical transformation of five adjoining suburbs of Angle Park, Athol Park, Ferryden Park, Mansfield Park and Woodville Gardens in the north-west.
Somerly will comprise almost 2,200 homes and more than 5,400 residents when completed next year 5 years ahead of the original schedule.
The projects will now contest the National UDIA Awards in Perth in March 2007.
