Katharine Lee has joined Clayton Utz’s construction team in Melbourne.
Lee has dual degrees in architecture and law and comes to the team with comprehensive legal experience gained in the construction and transport sectors.
Working in-house at KCRC in Hong Kong, Lee was part of last year’s Construction In-house Team of the Year in the ALB Hong Kong Law Awards.
Prior to moving in-house, Lee spent a period at the Hong Kong office of Masons Thelen Reid, where she was involved in a range of large-scale deals in the region.
Originally trained as an architect, Lee taught in that faculty while completing her law degree at Sydney University.
Between graduation and moving to China, Lee gained extensive experience on construction and major projects with a number of Australia’s top tier law firms.
"Coming home with a mix of in-house and corporate commercial legal experience is great. One of the aspects that I find attractive about working in this field is that our Australian clients tend to be more attuned to the benefits of introducing lawyers earlier in the process, which means the deals tend to get done with less fuss and delay.
"I am delighted to join Clayton Utz as they are premier in the construction area and also have recently been noted as the 2005 Transport Firm of the Year, and transport is the other string to my practice bow, so I very much look forward to the mix that I will tackle in my new role,” Lee said.
