Three property moguls are amongst the top 10 in BRW’s 2006 Rich 200 list.
Westfield’s Frank Lowy only came second to James Packer, whose inherited media and gambling fortunes total $7.4 billion.
According to the BRW Rich 200 list, Lowy’s fortune is worth $5.4 billion, making the shopping centre magnate the richest property mogul in Australia.
Lowy’s fortune jumped $600 million from $4.8 billion last year.
Sydney’s property developer Harry Triguboff, dubbed the Meriton Apartments builder, was also on the top 10 list, he came second to Lowy on the property rich list with $2.5 billion.
Triguboff’s fortune jumped $500 million from $2 billion in 2005.
Meanwhile, another shopping centre magnate, Melbourne’s John Gandel, ninth on the top 10 rich list, came in third on the property rich list with $1.8 billion.
Gandel managed to add an extra $300 million this year, last year he was worth $1.5 billion.
While Packer is still listed under the category of media and investment in this year’s BRW Rich 200 list, earlier this year he took a $70 million stake in the burgeoning Queensland developer Sunland – which could be extended to $130 million by year’s end.
There are four women in the property rich list, led by Imelda Roche at $505 million.
Roche who is co-chairman of Roche Group, a company involved in resort, leisure and tourism development.
Roche’s fortunes however fell $10 million, in 2005, she was worth $515 million.
Charlotte Vidor followed behind with $430 million, after amassing an additional $35 million from $395 million last year.
The biggest gain in the female property rich list was Iris Lustig, whose fortunes increased by $40 million from $300 million in 2005 to $340 million this year.
Mary Fairfax was the fourth richest female property mogul with $304 million.
