One of Australia's largest builders and leading private land developers, the Dennis Family Corporation, is one of the first in the country to establish an internal Sustainable Development Committee.
The corporation has appointed Martin Williams as Sustainable Development Project Leader, who will drive the corporation’s sustainability program.
Williams has 12 years experience in civil and environmental engineering and will work with the committee – which includes DFC founder and Chairman Bert Dennis and Managing Director Rob Carter – to support DFC sustainability initiatives.
Among the committee’s priorities are the third pipe schemes for recycled water and five star energy rating for DFC homes which comes into force in Victoria on July 1 next year.
“Third pipe schemes are a very high priority and the Corporation intends implementing it at its largest estate, Manor Lakes in Melbourne’s west,’’ says Williams.
“The intention of the scheme is to supply treated waste water to new homes for watering gardens and flushing toilets to help alleviate the stress on dwindling water supplies.’’ Another project Williams will explore is the establishment of a wind farm north of Werribee at Quandong, five kilometres from Manor Lakes. Preliminary testing has already taken place.
Williams will also be working with several DFC project managers on a range of environmental issues.
