More than 200 fearless participants took part in the recent Allendale Abseil, raising more than $175,000 for the Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth. This unique event saw everyone from school children to Olympian Bill Kirby abseil down the side of the 135- metre Allendale Square building.
The event is one of the longest single rope abseils available anywhere in the world and the only way people in Perth can abseil from this height.
The event was the brainchild of city real estate agent, and Chairman of Colliers International, Graham Iddles, and Adventure Out’s Director Terry Hewitt. It was first run in 2002, and what was thought to be an ambitious fund-raising target was set at $50,000. However, i$100,000 was raised in the first year.. In 2003, the event has again exceeded expectations, with an amazing $175,000 was raised, making it one of Perth’s most successful fund raising events.
The PMH Foundation and sponsors, Colliers International, Adventure Out and Cape Bouvard, were overwhelmed by the support for the event and are now keen to focus on raising even more in future years.
Graham Iddles says it has been amazing to watch this event grow. The atmosphere at the weekend was terrific and everyone was so enthused and positive about the whole experience.”
Funds raised from this year’s Allendale Abseil will buy two nitric oxide therapy units for PMH’s Neonatal Ward and help out with the refurbishment of the hospitals Hay Street building.
Well done to the boys at Colliers and all who participated
