Ford's old chassis plant in North Geelong is set to be redeveloped into a $100 million retail and office complex employing more than 1,500 people. A consortium called the Quay Development Corporation, made up of the Victor Smorgon Group, Geelong Football Club president Frank Costa as well as Jack and Robert Smorgon’s Escor Group, have purchased the 15ha Princess Highway site for in excess of $14 million.The development will be called Bay City Promenade and will be completed in 2006.Costa believes Bay City Promenade will balance the City of Geelong perfectly adding new entrance to Geelong and the Surf Coast.Bay City Promenade will be developed in two stages with the 27,000 sqm retail hub incorporating a hotel and tourism centre to be completed first followed by a massive 25,000 sqm office and call centre precinct.
